Today the new firmware version for X-T2 has appeared. Lots of changes, including many nice ones.
- Ability to write RAW not only in AE bracketing, but also in bracketing of ISO, dynamic range, white balance and film simulation and while using advanced filters. So far I didn’t use the advanced filters – just because it disallowed writing of RAWs.
- Added ISO 125 and 160. To me it is meaningless. X-T2 has the ISO-less sensor, so it makes no difference if I set ISO 100 or 125 or 160.
- The maximum time of the long exposure changed from 30 seconds to 15 minutes – a must have in case of night landscapes.
- Ability to switch off exposure time correction with command dial – it is a good option as it sometimes happens that I change exposure time by accident.
- Ability to select ISO value from entire range using the command dial, when in the ISO menu we set such option for the “A” setting on the ISO dial – to me it has only one use: changing ISO while making video, as the command dial works much quieter than the ISO dial on top of the camera.
- Ability to set AUTO for selection of the longest exposure time in the ISO settings. This is a great option! And it works! You can see how the camera changes the longest exposure time at which it starts changing ISO when you change the focal length of (for example) the Fujinon 55-200 mm!
- Faster focusing with face detection thanks to use of the phase detection. Nice change… but why it didn’t work from the very beginning? 🙂
- Better in-focus signaling inside the camera – this will minimize the focus hunting in AF-C mode. Very important improvement as this probably make the AF-C mode more usable for video.
- Added 6-th, the smallest one AF point size. It is strange – I still see only 5 in my X-T2. OK, it works – in the AF-S mode 🙂
- The ability to independently set AF sensor and AF mode for landscape and for portrait orientations. I had no idea that it could be so nice feature until I played with it a little 🙂
- Ability to change the location of the AF frame while changing it’s size.
- Active eye sensor, switching between the viewfinder and the screen while filming – very nice feature for me!
- Ability to change ISO value while filming – great option – together with number 5.
- Re-focusing during filming after the shutter release is pressed half way – nice option. But remember: this is related to AF-S only as in AF-C focus is being updated all the time.
- Live histogram during filming – oh yes, it is a must have option.
- Change of the lower sensitivity limit for external mic. Hmm… I haven’t noticed any problems with mics.
- Additional screen / viewfinder option: composing through the viewfinder but showing the ready picture on the screen. I wa swaiting for this option. But… Fujifilm! What about the menu? Why it is only in the viewfinder instead of the screen? 🙂
- Permanent “Dual display” mode – it does not disappear after the shutter release is pressed.
- Automatic change of the on-screen GUI for portrait position – finally less pain in the neck 🙂
- Ability to name the custom settings set – so far I wasn’t using custom setting sets just because I never remembered what I set under what number. Position 1 is for landscape? Or sport? Or maybe macro? Now I can name the set and everything is clear. At least I hope so 🙂
- Info about author and copyrights nor can be added in the camera. Taking into account that X-T2 allows for use of the out of camera pictures, ability to write author and copyright info becomes very important.
- Voice memo – to be honest, I never use it.
- Bracketing – now 9 frames instead of 3 and max 3EV instead of 2EV. Finally HDR becomes easier thing with X-T2.
- Ability to block shooting without memory card inserted. It allows to avoid painful surprise after great shooting session 🙂
Lots of nice and useful changes. And what can we expect in May? Maybe focus bracketing? Yes, Fujifilm! Please! Give me the focus bracketing!
